Weathering the Storm, Dr. Remington Rice

Weathering the Storm is a workshop designed to help participants recognize signs of stress and explore practical strategies for strengthening their wellness. After completing this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Explain that everyone experiences stress and that not all stress is bad.
  • Identify common signals of stress in a person’s body, mood, and behavior.
  • Describe the eight dimensions of wellness and how they relate to overall health.
  • Identify reasons for loneliness and how to address them.
  • Develop a practice of mindful breathing to manage stress.
  • Identify local and national resources that support stress management and personal wellbeing.

About The Speaker

 

Dr. Remington Rice

Dr. Remington Rice is an Extension Educator with Michigan State University Extension and leads the statewide Managing Farm Stress program. This initiative provides critical resources, including referrals to counseling services and an online course to help farmers, farm families, and agricultural professionals recognize and respond to signs of stress and suicide.

Raised in a multi-generational Northern Michigan farm family, Dr. Rice brings both personal understanding and professional expertise to his work. He holds a doctorate in Health Psychology and partners with farmers across Michigan to support health, resilience, and well-being in agricultural communities.
