Reported U.S. chip potato shipments during the four weeks in August fell 36.9% below 2025 movement. At 2.294 million cwt, that is 1.339 million cwt less than the industry shipped during the same four-week period a year earlier. Reduced shipments from Michigan (-330,000 cwt), Wisconsin (-221,000 cwt) and the West Coast region (-213,000 cwt) were the largest factors in the decline. The Midwest region (-130,000 cwt), Pennsylvania (-100,000 cwt), the Mid-Central region (-80,000 cwt), Maine (-78,000 cwt), and the Southwest region (-67,000 cwt) also reported slower movement during August. No regions reported an increase in August movement compared to last year. Season-to-date, total reported new-crop chip potato shipments are running 13.2% behind the 2025 pace.
U.S. packers shipped 1.407 million cwt of table potatoes during the week ending Aug. 29. That is down from 1.424 million cwt shipped a year earlier. Michigan packers shipped 34,212 cwt during the week ending Aug. 29. That is down from 34,671 cwt shipped during the same week in 2025. Last week’s reported Michigan shipments were 100% russets.
Wisconsin packers are selling size A russet potatoes in 10# bags for mostly $10 per 50-pound bale, down from $10-$11 per 50-pound bale last week. They are selling russet 40-70 count cartons for $20-$21 per 50-pound box, up from $19-$20 per 50-pound box a week ago. The weighted average shipping point price for new-crop Idaho Russet Norkotahs is $22.23 per cwt, up from $21.61 per cwt the previous week.
