Chip potato movement has been steady. Michigan growers have shipped 2.42 million cwt of chip potatoes in the 14 weeks since Aug. 1, compared to 2.41 million cwt during the same period in 2024. That is 9,541 cwt, or 0.4%, more than year-earlier movement. Chip potato movement from Wisconsin is up 3.7% from last year. Reported shipments from New York match last year’s pace, at 694,000 cwt. In addition, shipments from Maine are up 3.4%. U.S. chip potato shipments totaled 12.27 million cwt during the 14-week timeframe. That is 1.08 million cwt, or 8.1% below 2024 movement.
Table potato movement is picking up ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. U.S. packers shipped 1.820 million cwt of table potatoes during the week ending Nov. 8. That is up from 1.764 million cwt shipped a year earlier. Michigan packers shipped 41,518 cwt during the week ending Nov. 8. That is down from 49,640 cwt shipped during the same week in 2024. Last week’s reported Michigan shipments were 91.3% russets, 8.1% yellow potatoes, and 0.5% round white potatoes.
Wisconsin packers are selling size A russet potatoes in 10-pound bags for $7-$8 per 50-pound bale, unchanged from a week ago. They are selling russet 40-70 count cartons for $12-$13 per 50-pound box, also unchanged. The weighted average shipping point price for new-crop Idaho Russet Norkotahs is $10.48 per cwt, down from $10.54 per cwt the previous week.
Wisconsin packers are selling 10/5-pound bales of size A yellow potatoes for $14-$17 per bale, unchanged from last week. They are also selling 50-pound cartons of size A yellow potatoes for $14-$17 per 50-pound box, also unchanged. They are selling 50-pound cartons of size B Yellow potatoes for mostly $11 per 50-pound box, unchanged from a week ago.
Wisconsin packers are selling 10/5-pound bales of size A red potatoes for $13-$14 per bale, unchanged from last week. They are also selling 50-pound cartons of size A red potatoes for $11-$13.50 per 50-pound box, also unchanged. They are selling 50-pound cartons of size B red potatoes for mostly $15-$16 per 50-pound box, unchanged from a week ago.
