Reported U.S. chip potato shipments during the four weeks in February fell 11.6% short of 2025 movement. At 3.563 million cwt, that is 466,000 cwt less than the industry shipped during the same four-week period a year earlier. Reduced shipments from Wisconsin (-172,000 cwt), the Rocky Mountain region (-135,000 cwt), and the Southwest region (-129,000 cwt) were the largest factors in the decline. The Red River Valley (-61,000 cwt), the Midwest region (-54,000 cwt), Pennsylvania (-15,000 cwt), the Mid-Central region (-14,000 cwt), the West Coast region (-11,000 cwt), and Maine (-7,000 cwt) also reported slower movement during February. February chip potato shipments from Michigan (+92,000 cwt) and New York (+41,000 cwt) exceeded year-earlier movement. Season-to-date (August-February), total reported chip potato shipments are running 11.1% behind the 2025 pace.
U.S. packers shipped 1.767 million cwt of table potatoes during the week ending Feb. 28, 2026. That is up from 1.691 million cwt shipped a year earlier. Michigan packers shipped 41,127 cwt during the week ending Feb. 28. That is down from 76,524 cwt shipped during the same week in 2025. Last week’s reported Michigan shipments were 79.2% russets, 11.1% yellow potatoes, and 9.7% round white potatoes.
USDA reports that Michigan packers are selling size A russets in 10-pound bags for mostly $10-$11 per 50-pound bale, unchanged from a week ago. They are selling size A russets in 5-pound bags for $11-$12 per 50-pound bale, also unchanged. Wisconsin packers are selling size A russet potatoes in 10-pound bags for $7-$7.50 per 50-pound bale, unchanged from last week. They are selling russet 40-70 count cartons for mostly $10 per 50-pound box, also unchanged. The weighted average shipping point price for Idaho Russet Norkotahs is $8.91 per cwt, down from $9.15 per cwt previous week.
Red River Valley packers are selling 10/5-pound bales of size A yellow potatoes for $12-$14 per bale, unchanged from a week ago. They are selling 50-pound cartons of size A yellow potatoes for mostly $12-$13 per 50-pound box, also unchanged. They are also selling size A yellow potatoes in 2,000-pound tote bags for mostly $16-$18 per cwt, unchanged from last week. Red River Valley packers are selling yellow creamers for $25-$30 per 50-pound carton, also unchanged.
Florida packers are selling 50-pound cartons of size A round white potatoes for $31.50-$33.75 per box. They are selling 50-pound cartons of size B round white potatoes for $22.25-$25.75 per box. They are also selling round white creamers for $35.95-$45.95per 50-pound carton.
