Stats Canada reports that Canadian growers harvested 125.84 million cwt of potatoes during 2025. That is 1.19 million cwt less than the 2024 crop, a 0.9% reduction. Ontario growers produced 112,000 cwt fewer potatoes in 2025, a 1.3% decline. Quebec’s potato crop is up 14,000 cwt, or 0.1%, from a year ago. Production in PEI and New Brunswick dropped by 15.9% and 4.7%, respectively. Production is also down 2.1% in Manitoba. On the other hand, production exceeded the 2024 crop in Saskatchewan (+8.6%), Alberta (+13.1%), and British Columbia (+16.7%).
Canada’s chip potato supplies are down from last year. Agriculture Canada reported this week that Ontario had 6.13 million cwt of potatoes left in storage on Dec. 1. This year’s stocks fell 154,000 cwt, or 2.5%, short of the 2024 inventory. Intended use data show a 166,000-cwt reduction in chip potato stocks, to 4.32 million cwt, down 3.7%. Quebec had 9.54 million cwt of potatoes in storage on Dec. 1. This year’s Dec. 1 stocks fell 604,000 cwt, or 6.0%, below year-earlier holdings. Processing stocks (chip and frozen) were down 305,000 cwt, or 7.6%, relative to the previous year.
U.S. packers shipped 1.43 million cwt of table potatoes during the week ending Dec. 6. That is down from 1.66 million cwt shipped a year earlier. Michigan packers shipped 39,742 cwt during the week ending Dec. 6. That is down from 67,130 cwt shipped during the same week in 2024. Last week’s reported Michigan shipments were 88.0% russets, 7.0% round white potatoes, 4.8% yellow potatoes, and 0.2% red potatoes.
USDA reports that Michigan packers are selling size A russets in 10-pound bags for mostly $10-$11 per 50-pound bale, unchanged from a week ago. They are selling size A russets in 5-pound bags for $11-$12 per 50-pound bale, also unchanged. Wisconsin packers are selling size A russet potatoes in 10-pound bags for $7-$7.50 per 50-pound bale, unchanged from last week. They are selling russet 40-70 count cartons for $11-$12 per 50-pound box, down from $12-$13 per 50-pound box a week ago. The weighted average shipping point price for Idaho Russet Norkotahs is $10.41 per cwt, down slightly from $10.45 per cwt the previous week.
Wisconsin packers are selling 10/5-pound bales of size A yellow potatoes for $14-$16 per bale, unchanged from last week. They are selling 50-pound cartons of size A yellow potatoes for $14-$15 per 50-pound box, also unchanged. They are selling 50-pound cartons of size B yellow potatoes for mostly $11 per 50-pound box, unchanged from last week.
