Reported U.S. chip potato movement during the four weeks in May totaled 3.691 million cwt. That is 109,000 cwt more than the industry shipped during the same period the previous year, a 3.0% increase. Increased shipments from Wisconsin (+329,000 cwt), the Rocky Mountain region (+230,000 cwt), the Red River Valley (+50,000 cwt), the Mid-Central region (+49,000 cwt), and the Southwest region (+26,000 cwt) offset reduced movement from Michigan (-168,000 cwt), Maine (-179,000 cwt), the West Coast region (-122,000 cwt), Florida (-81,000 cwt), and the Midwest region (-24,000 cwt). Chip potato shipments from New York nearly matched 2025 movement during the same four-week period. US chip potato shipments, season-to-date (August 1 through May 31), total 39.120 million cwt. That is 3.268 million cwt, or 7.7%, less than year-earlier movement. 

At 586,000 cwt, Michigan’s reported May chip potato shipments fell 21.8% short of year-earlier movement. However, May shipments exceeded the 5-year average pace by 9.4%. The state’s chipstock shipments, season-to-date, are running 223,000 cwt, or 3.0%, behind last year’s pace.

U.S. packers shipped 1.553 million cwt of table potatoes during the week ending May 30, 2026. That is up from 1.383 million cwt shipped a year earlier. Michigan packers shipped 56,265 cwt during the week ending May 30, 2026. That is up from 19,119 cwt shipped during the same week in 2025. Last week’s reported Michigan shipments were 81.9% russets, 9.7% yellow potatoes, 6.8% round white potatoes, and 1.6% red potatoes.

USDA reports that Michigan packers are selling size A russets in 10-pound bags for mostly $10-$11 per 50-pound bale, unchanged from a week ago. They are selling size A russets in 5-pound bags for mostly $11-$12 per 50-pound bale, also unchanged. Wisconsin packers are selling size A russet potatoes in 10-pound bags for $7-$7.50 per 50-pound bale, unchanged from last week. They are selling russet 40-70 count cartons for mostly $11-$12 per 50-pound box, up from $10 per 50-pound box a week ago. The weighted average shipping point price for Idaho russet Norkotahs is $10.23 per cwt, up from $9.28 per cwt the previous week.

Florida packers are selling 50-pound cartons of size A yellow potatoes for $23-$29.95 per 50-pound box, unchanged from a week ago. They are also selling size A yellow potatoes in 2,000-pound tote bags for $34-$40.90 per cwt, also unchanged. Florida packers are selling yellow creamers for $40.80 per 50-pound carton, up from $35.95-$41 per 50-pound carton last week.
