The 2025 Montcalm Potato Field Day is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 7, at Montcalm Research Center, 4629 W. McBride Road, Lakeview MI 48850.

Cost: Free.

  • 8:00am-8:30am – Check-in. Please pre-register here.
  • 8:30am-8:45am – Introduction by Steve Whittington, MSU Extension Educator, and then move to field breakout sessions.
  • 9:00am-10:15am – Breakout Session 1: Drone Application and Remote Sensing Technology
    • Drone Sprayer Application Demonstration: Testing effectiveness of different application approaches (Nicholle Ritchie, MSU Educator)
    • Remote Sensing and Digital Technology: Explore the use of remote sensing and digital agriculture capabilities by showcasing aerial imagery to assist in development and refining of IPM plans for fields (Rich Price, MSU Conservation Systems Agronomist)
    • Adjuvant demonstration showcasing chemical product effectiveness via drone application (Stephanie Kipp, Kipp Farm Services)
  • 10:30am-11:45am – Breakout Session 2: Agronomic IPM Approaches
    • Volunteer Management and Herbicide Resistance (Dr. Erin Burns, MSU Weed Scientist)
    • Late Blight Management (Dr. Jaime Willbur, MSU Potato Disease Management)
    • Colorado Potato Beetle Management (Dr. Zsofia Szendrei, MSU Vegetable Entomologist)
    • Aphid Management: A Grower's Perspective (Stephanie Kipp, Kipp Farm Services)
  • Noon-1:00pm – Lunch & Field Day Wrap-up

A Michigan Potato Industry Commission Research Committee meeting is scheduled for immediately following the Montcalm Field Day wrap-up. The meeting is at Douglass Township Hall, 3521 McBride Road, just down the road from the research center. It will begin at 1:30 pm.
