Soil Health in Michigan Potato Fields, Dr. Kaitlin Gattoni
The Michigan Potato Industry Commission, in partnership with the Sprunger lab, began a project to quantify soil health impact in potato fields across Michigan. The goal of this research is to identify which management practices (i.e., tillage, cover crops, amendments, pest management) best promote soil health. This project will also identify which soil health aspects (i.e., beneficial nematodes, soil carbon, etc.) correspond to increased yield and quality of potatoes. This presentation will showcase our results, including nematode community dynamics and how this relates to soil health.

About The Speaker
Dr. Kaitlin Gattoni
Dr. Kaitlin Gattoni is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Sprunger lab at the Michigan State University W. K. Kellogg Biological Station. Kaitlin received a Ph.D. in Nematology in 2023 with a dissertation focused on nematode and microbial communities in diverse habitats. In her current research, Kaitlin aims to use nematodes and other metrics to better understand soils in agricultural ecosystems with the goal of improving and conserving soil health.
