Michigan seed authorities certified 2,600 acres of potatoes from the 2025 crop. That is 65 acres more than they certified a year ago, a 2.6% increase. The seed area for major chip potato varieties increased by 2.9%, to 1,957 acres. That included a 4.9% increase in the state’s Frito Lay seed area. The Manistee seed area fell by 4.9%, to 498 acres. At 239 acres, the Mackinaw seed area rose by 0.8%. The Lamoka seed area increased by 5.3%, to 166 acres. Michigan’s Russet seed area was nearly unchanged, at 369 acres. That included a 59-acre increase in Reveille and a 37-acre increase in the Norkotah seed area. Russet Burbank seed fell 92 acres to 113 acres.

U.S. packers shipped 2.27 million cwt of table potatoes during the week ending Nov. 22. That is up from 2.24 million cwt shipped a year earlier. Michigan packers shipped 99,772 cwt during the week ending Nov. 22. That is down up slightly 99,409 cwt shipped during the same week in 2024. Last week’s reported Michigan shipments were 84.1% russets, 12.3% yellow potatoes, and 3.6% round white potatoes.

The USDA reports that Michigan packers are selling size A russets in 10-pound bags for mostly $10-$11 per 50-pound bale. They are selling size A russets in 5-pound bags for $11-$12 per 50-pound bale. Wisconsin packers are selling size A russet potatoes in 10-pound bags for $7-$7.50 per 50-pound bale, unchanged from a week ago. They are selling russet 40-70 count cartons for $12-$13 per 50-pound box, also unchanged. The weighted average shipping point price for new-crop Idaho Russet Norkotahs is $10.48 per cwt, unchanged from the previous week.

Wisconsin packers are selling 10/5-pound bales of size A yellow potatoes for $14-$17 per bale, unchanged from last week. They are also selling 50-pound cartons of size A yellow potatoes for $14-$17 per 50-pound box, also unchanged. They are selling 50-pound cartons of size B yellow potatoes for mostly $11 per 50-pound box, unchanged from a week ago.
