Chip potato movement remains slow and steady. Storage supplies appear to be sufficient as the industry transitions from storage potatoes to new-crop potatoes. Reports indicate that North Florida’s potato crop is expected to be average or slightly better. In North Carolina, crop development is 7-10 days ahead of schedule. Crops in Missouri and Ohio were planted on time and are in good condition. Planting is moving forward in southern Michigan.
US packers shipped 1.656 million cwt of table potatoes during the week ending May 2, 2026. That is up from 1.582 million cwt shipped a year earlier. Michigan packers shipped 45,155 cwt during the week ending May 2, 2026. That is up from 39,880 cwt shipped during the same week in 2025. Last week’s reported Michigan shipments were 64.8% Russets, 26.5% Round White potatoes, and 8.7% Yellow potatoes.
USDA reports that Michigan packers are selling size A Russets in 10# bags for mostly $10.00-$11.00 per 50# bale, unchanged from a week ago. They are selling size A Russets in 5# bags for mostly $11.00-$12.00 per 50# bale, also unchanged. Wisconsin packers are selling size A Russet potatoes in 10# bags for $7.00-$7.50 per 50# bale, unchanged from last week. They are selling Russet 40-70 count cartons for mostly $10.00 per 50# box, also un-changed. The weighted average shipping point price for Idaho Russet Norkotahs is $8.29 per cwt, down from $9.04 per cwt the previous week.
USDA has stopped reporting Yellow potato prices for the Red River Valley. Florida packers are selling 50# cartons of size A Yellow potatoes $23.00-$29.95 per 50# box, down from $23.00-$33.70 per 50# box a week ago. They are also selling size A Yellow potatoes in 2000# tote bags for $40.00-$43.00 per cwt, unchanged from last week. Florida packers are selling Yellow creamers for $35.95-$41.00 per 50# carton, down from $38.00-$41.00 per 50# carton a week ago.
